Basic Jazz Improvisation – “Maiden Voyage”

This fun, low-keyed class for students currently in grades 8-12 consists of a study of the basic concepts of jazz playing and improvisation for all instruments, even non-traditional jazz instruments. The Jamey Aebersold book and recording “Maiden Voyage” will be used as a source of study and performance materials. An ensemble will be created, with standard rhythm section instruments and an informal performance will be given at the conclusion of the week. Students do not need prior knowledge of jazz! Students performing in the wind ensemble are encouraged to enroll!
