Acting for Singers

Instructor: Lindsay Baker, Eastman Opera Theatre

This five-day acting course is geared toward the classical singer who wants to become a more embodied, attentive, and active performer. Students will gain a deeper understanding and awareness of their bodies as instruments and sources of creativity for character and performance. Students will learn a variety of psycho-physical acting techniques to:

  • Explore the limitations and possibilities of the body
  • Become a more collaborative and responsive ensemble member
  • Analyze a text to develop characters for performance

Methodologies include, but are not limited to: the Stanislavski System, Viewpoints and Composition, and yoga. The course will culminate with workshopping an English language art song, aria, or musical theater selection from each student’s personal repertoire.
