DescriptionDevelop the technical, musical and psychological fundamentals that lead to a deeper level of communication between conductor and orchestra. New conducting students will acquire and develop a strong set of fundamentals and musical values, enhancing skills in clarity, artistic movement and intent, and musical leadership from the podium. Topics to be covered will include:

-Clarity of beat and gesture
-How do we convey music with our hands and the baton?—linking the musical mind and baton
-Freedom of movement—the language of movement types and artistic intent
-Changing of tempo—how do we learn to control the tempo in speeding up and slowing down?
-Building musical leadership from the podium—how does one study, and how does one then apply that study to actual orchestral music making?

Additional InfoParticipants are capped at 18. Additional space for observers is available. Participants will be required to bring their own personal camera for recording and their own copy of “The Grammar of Conducting” by Max Rudolph.
