Institutes and Online Workshops
Brass
This institute is designed for advanced high-school, collegiate, and postgraduate players aged 15+. No audition is required; admission is by résumé review only. Use this template if you need help putting a résumé together. Enrollment/registration is capped once capacity has been reached.
A short video audition is required for performer admission to the workshop. The recording should contain approximately five minutes of music encompassing two contrasting works. These works can be movements (or excerpts of movements) from solo pieces, etudes, or orchestral excerpts. Please include something lyrical and something more technical. To apply, submit a resume and recordings. Please list two references on your résumé.
Please include a current copy of your résumé and an audition video. For the video, please record a movement of a solo, an etude, and 3 excerpts of your choice. You may use an existing résumé if you have one; these templates are provided in case you need help putting information together.
Please follow this format (or very similar) for your application materials. Auditions will be reviewed as they are received.
No audition is required, but please provide a copy of your music résumé and a short performance recording (about 5 minutes of contrasting material; can be solos, etudes, or excerpts) to help with ensemble placement. Jazz
- Upload your audition files or links on the Audition tab in the online portal.
- Request one letter of recommendation from your current ensemble director or private teacher. Online submission is preferred.
- Upload a musical résumé including recent solo and ensemble music, and any honors or awards.
- 10 minutes maximum
- Three contrasting pieces, i.e., bebop tune, standard, ballad
- Recorded examples to include improvised solos
- Accompanying skills: walking bass, comping, etc.
- Drums: four recorded examples, including medium tempo swing with trading fours; ballad with brushes; up-tempo swing; Latin

- One or two paragraphs about your solo and ensemble experience, awards, honors, etc.

- 10-20 minutes of music, composed of at least two pieces of contrasting styles
- If a piece uses piano accompaniment, recordings with piano are highly preferred but not required
- Three orchestral excerpts may be submitted instead of ONE of the required pieces
- Applicants are encouraged to present repertoire by composers who have been traditionally underrepresented by virtue of their gender, race, ethnicity, or cultural heritage. Search composers using the following database links:
