This year, we celebrate the 19th installment of the Eastman Summer Trombone Institute! Our institute is an intensive, informative, and supportive environment for players who wish to challenge themselves to be the most complete trombonist and musician possible. This workshop is designed for collegiate students, postgraduate musicians, and music educators wishing to further their skill set.
Your institute experience will include:
- Faculty-led warm-up classes
- Masterclasses
- Trombone Choir
- Rehearsal and performance with our faculty pianist
Special-topic discussions to include:
- Recital/Audition Preparation
- Improvisation
- Orchestral Playing
- Doubling on Low Brass Instruments

How to Apply:
This institute is designed for collegiate and postgraduate players age 18+ (our high school institute is planned to return in 2025). No audition is required; admission is by résumé review only. To apply, contact Professor Kellogg at mkellogg@esm.rochester.edu; include your music résumé with your message (use this template if you need help putting a résumé together). Registration deadline: May 15, 2024.
Begins with Faculty Concert on Sunday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Kilbourn Hall, followed by Orientation meeting in Ray Wright Room (ESM 120)
Jazz Night: Wednesday, July 31 at 7:30 pm in Hatch Recital Hall
Participant Solo Concert: Friday, August 2 at 3:30 pm in Hatch Hall
Trombone Choir Concert: Friday, August 2 at 7:30 pm in Kilbourn Hall
Professional Development Hours: 40
