Room: Ray Wright Room (ESM 120)

Faculty: Don Harry, Eastman School of Music; Scott Tegge, Northern Illinois University and University of Illinois; Mark Kellogg, Eastman School of Music

The Eastman Summer Tuba & Euphonium Institute is a weeklong experience where you will hone your musicianship, strengthen career-building skills, and expand your network of colleagues and mentors. Every participant will have the opportunity to perform in a masterclass, play in small and large tuba/euphonium ensembles, and take a private lesson with one of the faculty members. We will also have daily warm-up classes, special workshops on health and wellness, and a session on how to create a life in music. The institute ends with a Participant Chamber Music Concert.

After a Sunday evening Faculty Concert and welcome session, each day will include a variety of classes and seminars, including:

  • Faculty-led group warm-up classes
  • Masterclasses
  • Chamber ensembles (small groups and large tuba/euphonium ensemble)
  • Individual practice time and private lessons with faculty
  • Special topics discussions and a mock audition

The Institute is designed for advanced high school, college, and graduate-level students. Adult lifelong learners are also welcome!

This course is also available to online auditors for a reduced tuition fee. Auditors may access all group sessions (including warm-up classes, masterclasses, special topic discussions, and concerts), but they will not receive private instruction or perform in masterclasses or ensembles. Auditors do not need to submit placement recordings when registering.
