NOTE: Eastman’s Student Living Center will be completely closed for renovations during Summer 2024; on-campus housing and dining will not be available. All participants will need to make their own arrangements for housing and meals.

The Eastman Summer Tuba & Euphonium Institute is a weeklong experience where you will hone your musicianship, strengthen career-building skills, and expand your network of colleagues and mentors. Every participant will have the opportunity to perform in a masterclass, play in small and large tuba/euphonium ensembles, and take a private lesson with a faculty member. We will also have daily fundamentals classes, a panel discussion on career-building, a mock audition for both tuba and euphonium, a participant recital, and a participant chamber music concert.

After a Sunday evening Faculty Concert and welcome session, each day will include a variety of classes and seminars, including:

  • Faculty-led group fundamentals classes
  • Masterclasses
  • Chamber ensembles (small groups and large tuba/euphonium ensemble)
  • Private lessons with faculty
  • Individual practice time 
  • Special topics discussions: Career Building, Social Media in Music, Instrument Doubling, University Teaching
  • Mock auditions

This institute is designed for undergraduate students, graduate-level students, and early career professionals. Enrollment limited to 10 tubists and 10 euphonium players.

HOW TO APPLY:
This institute is designed for collegiate and postgraduate players age 18+ (our high school institute is planned to return in 2025). No audition is required, but please provide a copy of your music résumé and a short performance recording (about 5 minutes of contrasting material; can be solos, etudes, or excerpts) to help with ensemble placement.
