Choose from one of three levels:
Introductory: 6 weekly sessions on Thursdays, June 29-August 3, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Intermediate: 6 weekly sessions on Thursdays, June 29-August 3, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
For Bowed String Players: 6 weekly sessions on Thursdays, June 29-August 3, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Mandolin Workshop – Introductory
6 weekly sessions on Thursdays, June 29 – August 3, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
This workshop is open to anyone regardless of experience. Participants will learn the fundamentals of playing the instrument (posture, right hand picking technique, and left hand position), reading music in standard notation, playing tunes with basic chords, and developing musicianship through simple improvisation.
Mandolin Workshop – Intermediate
6 weekly sessions on Thursdays, June 29 – August 3, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Designed for mandolin players who are comfortable in reading and playing in first position, this workshop will focus on developing intermediate level skills – playing in second and third position, tremolo, glide strokes, as well as musicianship through playing as a small ensemble.
Mandolin for Bowed String Players Workshop
6 weekly sessions on Thursdays, June 29 – August 3, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
A workshop is catered to players of bowed string instruments (violin, viola, cello) to learn the equivalent instruments in the mandolin family – mandolin, mandola, and mandocello. Participants will learn the fundamental techniques in playing the mandolin (posture, right hand picking technique, and left hand position), playing tunes with basic chords, and developing musicianship through playing as a small ensemble. Instrument may be available upon request.
Tuition: $64
Concert: August 5 at 3:00 p.m. in Kilbourn Hall
